Trust Yourself

“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”

-Edmund Hillary, the first person to climb Mount Everest and live to tell about it.

I don’t know why, but reading that made me smile. It’s true though. If you really ponder about it, it’s not the mountain, it’s yourself. There are a few instances where I feel like I’ve conquer IT. ‘It’ being anything, a test, an instruction, a rollercoaster, just anything. But hey, it’s not all that… It’s MYSELF.

Recalling a period… Months ago… January I think… That period of time was the hardest for me… School was disastrous. No. School wasn’t. The WORK LOAD was. Since that period, I’ve learnt what stress is. It was so bad that tears rolled down willlingly. Alhamdulillah, I got through it. Conquering myself? Perhaps.

I think the first thing you must do before conquering yourself is to trust yourself. Sometimes, I don’t even trust myself. I doubt myself. I don’t know if….. If I’m capable of doing something. Wow. I can’t believe I’m typing all these.

Anyways… I’m sure I’m not the only one who doubts herself. I’m sure there are other souls out there with insecurities as well. I have always believed that no matter how full of confidence one is, somewhere in the corner of his/her heart, there is a room of insecurities. The difference is the number of insecurities. Some individuals have more, others less.
Hence, there are songs about believing in yourself, about life and whatnot. Oh, and of course, young singers play a part… Why? Well, teenagers listen to them…
Think Joey McIntyre’s Stay The Same.
Dont you ever say
You dont like the way you are
When you learn to love yourself
Youre better off by far
And I hope you always stay the same
Cause theres nothing bout you I would change
Then there’s Hilary Duff, with her hit, Fly.
Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine
Forget about the reasons why you can’t in life
And start to try
Cause it’s your time
Time to fly
All your worries
leave them somewhere else
Find a dream you can follow
Reach for something, when there’s nothing left
And the world’s feeling hollow
And when you’re down and feel alone
Just want to run away
Trust yourself and don’t give up
You know you better than anyone else
Then Chiristina Aguilera’s The Voice Within-
When there’s no one else
Look inside yourself
Like your oldest friend just trust the voice within
Then you’ll find the strength that will guide your way
You’ll learn to begin to trust the voice within
Young girl don’t hide
You’ll never change if you just run away
Young girl just hold tight
Soon you’re gonna see your brighter day
Now in a world where innocence is quickly claimed
It’s so hard to stand your ground when you’re so afraid
No one reaches out a hand for you to hold
When you look outside look inside to your soul
Talking about trust, sometimes, we trust others more than we trust ourselves. I can remember vividly, there was one time, I was eating at Bedok Interchange’s KFC when a Chinese lady approached me and told me to just keep an eye on her things. See? She trusted me. She DOESN’T even know me.
An easy example would be… Hmm… When you’re taking a lift with someone. You trust that person to be in that same constraint space. You’ll never know (reminds me of Fish) if he’s a molester or if she’s a pickpocket…
Then at the supermarket, some leave their trolleys at one spot while looking for stuffs… Then at the cashier, you give them your NETS… You trust those cashiers… You’ll never know if they break your cards into half or something… There’s a certain degree of trust you aplly to different people… Even to yourself…
Bottomline is… Do you trust yourself? No? Why? Yes? How much do you trust yourself? I think we should learn to trust ourselves before tursting someone else. When you trust someone, then he/she breaks it, you’ll feel like killing yourself. Haha.
Trust is such a factor in relationships, friendships and whatnot. Trust. Wow. Trust. Ok I can’t stop. Someone make me stop! Haha. Believe yourself. Talk to yourself, find out who you are. After all, like they say… Life is a journey, not a destination.
