Copy and paste the title of this post (without “at night”) on any search engine will bring you to an array of blogs written by fellow Singaporeans. Most of them blog about how the air is fresh, and clean, the official opening, the map of this place. Well… Let me just cut to the chase. I’m going to do it differently – no clear blue sky, no runners or cyclists, just the area after midnight.
If you’re a traveller and don’t feel like partying in rowdy Clarke Quay or Tanjong Pagar, and want to get away from crowd, or on a budget, you should head here. It’s a quiet place and because it’s a new estate, you might have a little difficulty locating the place. Then again, how lost can you be in tiny Singapore?
I’ve been around the area a lot, for different purposes: have dinner, brisk walking, jogging, sketching Punggol Serangoon Reservoir or just enjoying nature and taking pictures of the picturesque place. Sometimes, I choose to just hang out there, like tonight; I was there from about 11pm until 4am. Photos are taken with iPhone 4S, unedited.
At 11pm, the eateries are still flooded with people. Maybe because it’s a Saturday. Sitting by the river, I could hear the thumping music. It almost felt like you’re along the stretch of clubs in Clarke Quay. If you prefer absolute silence instead, move further away from the place. The lovely moon was complementing the aptly-spaced lamps. Love the ambiance!
Oh yes, when nature calls, you’ve got to…answer it. Despite being a public toilet, the place is really clean. I was hoping to find neglected tissue paper or sanitary pad cover or something, like the undesirable toilets in some shopping malls. Nope! No litter at all!
Fret not, there was quite a bit of tissue to go around.
Uhuh. Nature found its way to the toilet too! My ideal bathroom.
Four cubicles in total.
Shared sink.
If you need a wheelchair-accessible toilet, there’s one here.
Water cooler station.
If the water cooler isn’t your thing, there’s a Pokka vending machine.
The left view.
The right view.
Please bear in mind, those swirly things are bicycle lots, not something for your child to go through, crawling from one end to the other!
What else is there? Futsal, restaurants, arcade, etc. Allow me to leave you to explore the place.
This is definitely the place to find solace, or catch up with an old friend or dating. No cover charge, no service charge, just convenience and (almost) silence.
